Cancer Prevention for the Fire Investigator - 3 CEUs
This class is being held in conjunction with the Floria Fire and Explosives Investigators Section's North Regional Meeting

(3 Contact hours approved for Fire Code Administrator and Fire Safety Inspector)
NFPA 1 section 1.7.11 allows the AHJ to conduct origin and cause investigations for fires and/or explosions. Keeping the fire investigator safe from harmful exposures and monitoring potential cancer levels is an important task. This course will review how these programs and tasks can help fire investigators stay safe.

Chief J.J. Martinez began his career in emergency services in 2004 with a private Basic Life Support (BLS) company in his hometown of Tampa, Florida. In 2008, he joined Pasco County Fire Rescue, where he has steadily advanced through the ranks.
From 2011 to 2019, Chief Martinez served as President of the Firefighters Charities of Pasco, followed by his role as Vice President of the Pasco County Professional Firefighters Local 4420 from 2019 to 2024. In 2014, he completed nursing school, further enhancing his clinical expertise.
Throughout his career, Chief Martinez has earned numerous certifications through the State of Florida, including Health and Safety Officer, Incident Safety Officer, Fire Officer II, and Instructor II. He is also a certified Air Truck Technician and Decontamination Technician and holds mental health certifications from both the International Critical Incident Stress Foundation (ICISF) and the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF).
In 2024, he was promoted to Division Chief of Health and Safety. In this role, he oversees a wide range of critical programs, including the Mental Health Program, Decontamination Program, Air Truck Program, Occupational Health Program, Rehabilitation Program, Peer Fitness Program, and Infectious Control Program. He also serves as Chair of the Pasco County Fire Rescue Safety Committee, demonstrating his ongoing commitment to the health, safety, and well-being of the department and the community it serves.
